20:20 Executive “Mal”function Strategy

After a fun, full-court press summer of entertaining them most weekdays, the grandkids are back in school today.   I am simultaneously in need of deep rest, but excited to have all this extra time devoted to some sorely ignored logistics.  I am afraid that if I start logistics, I will put off getting the deep rest my body is also craving.  I am afraid that if I commit to deep rest that I’ll accidentally hibernate for three days.

In other words, I don’t know what to do next.  My executive function is offline.

My favorite coping strategy during this type of paralysis is “20:20” since I am confident that I can do anything for just 20 minutes.

In this case, 20 minutes of important logistics, 20 minutes of restorative self-care get plugged into the equation, and I get moving either way.

Often, once I am engaged in the activity I balked at, I willingly do it longer. However, I recommend sticking to the time limit if something as important as deep rest is needed for balance.

If you have strategies for executing “mal”function too, please let me know on Facebook or Instagram!
